My name is
Ken Friedman and I am the President of Provisional Supply. As you look
through our website and see our products and prices you may think to
yourself that this is to good to be true. Trust me, I have been hearing
this since we started the company. Well, this is for real and this is true.
Myself and
my partners started the company not for personal financial gain, but for the
love and honor of history, the betterment of Civil War reenacting and to
make the correct gear as financially obtainable as possible to all members
of the rank and file.
Myself and
my partners Chip Zerr and Walt Barger, are long-time reenactors. We are
with the 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, a progressive unit in the 3rd
Battalion USV

You see,
we have spent years in the hobby not understanding why some sutlers
sell generic items claiming it is from a certain pattern or from a certain
year of issue. All you need is a little bit of historical knowledge to find
out that their claims are completely false. How many sutlers sell canteens
covered in that same darn blue wool with the big thick cotton web sling.
Why is it that they sell the cartridge boxes with the acorn shaped finial
and the big copper rivet on the front and claim it is a pattern 1861 box??
We all see original photographs and we all know it is wrong. Why is it
that that's all most of the event sutlers sell? Why is it, that if you
want a truly correct item like a canteen, a cartridge box, a uniform you
have to pay though the nose for it?? Well after years of asking that
question and seeing blue canteen after blue canteen in the rank and file I
realized the answer... And the answer is, because nobody cares enough to
sell the correct gear at a correct and affordable price. Nobody cares to do
the painstaking research needed to obtain the knowledge to do it right and
nobody cares to make that gear available and affordable to all.
Who is
Provisional Supply? We are the ones who care. We have spent the past year
deep in research, reading text books on gear, studying original items,
relics, touring battlefield visitor's centers and museums. We joined the
Company of Military Historians to gain access to their data and even became
members of the National Civil War Museum. We have spent countless hours
there examining, photographing and cataloging original items.
People ask
all the time how can you sell a cartridge box, a canteen, a sack coat so
cheap??? It must be that import stuff. Well all I can say is that when
you truly care, when you have a sales/purchasing executive, an engineer and
a plant production manager as partners in a company all with a shared
historical passion and all pulling their collective experience and
abilities, anything can be possible.
So, that's
who we are. We formed this company for you, our brother re-enactors.
Provisional Supply is your company.
Please
take a look around. If you have any questions, please feel free to call,
fax or email. We really want to hear from you.
Thank
you for your support.
Yours
most truly,
Ken
Friedman
